Greensboro Last Minute

Mild winters, warm summers, and gorgeous scenery make Greensboro a natural choice for a quick, last minute getaway. Set amongst the coast and the Blue Ridge range of the Appalachians, Greensboro enjoys very little snow in the winter, with temperatures averaging in the upper 80s in the summer months. The third largest city in North Carolina, Greensboro has experienced a dramatic increase in nightlife over the past few years, making it the perfect place to be entertained both day and night.

If you find yourself visiting this dynamic city in the late summer months, be sure to check out the Classic Car Show, which features some of the most unique and rare restored classic cars in the region. Or you could head to Country Park for the Guilford Native American Association Pow Wow, a three-day event featuring competitive dances and other aspects of Native American culture from across the nation.

For those last minute visitors who love the arts, be sure to check out the Greensboro Ballet, where you can catch performances of “The Nutcracker” and other renowned ballets, as well as educational programs and other activities.

A great follow up to the ballet would be a stroll through the amazing Bog Garden, which boasts a half-mile elevated wooden walkway that allows you a more intimate look into the more than 8000 trees, shrubs, ferns, bamboo and wildflowers on the grounds. This unbelievable exhibit is just one of the 110 parks that can be found throughout Greensboro.

If you’ve brought the whole family for this last minute adventure, be sure to let the little ones work off some energy at Celebration Station, which features an abundance of family favorites: batting cages, a miniature golf course, arcade games, go-carts, and water bumper boats. Once the young ones have settled down a bit, you can enjoy a nice dinner at one of the two themed restaurants. Another great choice for the family is the Greensboro Children’s Museum, where hands-on exhibits and activities keep everyone intrigued.

Greensboro is also the ideal destination for those who love history, with places like the Blandwood Mansion, the majestic former home of Governor John Motley Morehead. Built around 1846, this beautiful mansion is surrounded by four lush acres of gardens. Once you’re done there, you can head to the Walkway of History on South Elm Street. Sidewalk markers chronicle major events in local African American history.

No matter when you venture out to this unique city, you’ll find that Greensboro is always ready to welcome you with its variety of entertainment options, historical sites of interests and overall easy going attitude. Bring family or friends and make it a trip to remember.
