Seattle Last Minute

Seattle, Washington is a coastal city and major seaport and a terrific place to go on a last-minute vacation. Its location gives the city a very individual sense of character, both in culture and in the landscape. Located on 12 hills, Seattle sits between Puget Sound, an arm of the Pacific Ocean, and Lake Washington. One thing visitors notice right away is the beautiful greenery afforded by a landscape filled with towering trees. The 34-37 inches of rainfall per year help facilitate this lushness. Seattle is simply breathtaking to someone who has never been to this part of the country all travelers will enjoy the fresh air!

Like most major cities, Seattle is known for its unique attractions and cultural influences. Pike Place Market is one such place, and it is not to be missed! At First Avenue and Pike Street, the market is home to lots of open-air stalls with locally made arts and crafts, as well as small shops and gift boutiques. And of course, the market is where you can get fresh produce, fish, crabs and other seafood.

Another favorite is the Space Needle, a 600-foot observation station and restaurant. It only takes 41 seconds in the elevator before you can begin enjoying the amazing 360-degree views of the city and its sparkling lights. The Seattle Aquarium also attracts a lot of visitors and boasts the perfect location right on the waterfront.

You may have heard about Seattle’s collective coffee obsession, which is evidenced by the number of coffee companies based or founded in Seattle, such as Starbucks, Seattle’s Best Coffee and Tully’s. The birthplace of grunge music, this city is also home to the Museum of Rock ‘n’ Roll, where you can view memorabilia from grunge bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, and other local groups.

If you’re looking for a little nightlife action, you’ll want to head to Pike/Pine Corridor, which is filled with all night coffeehouses, live music clubs, and smoky bars. You could also check out Seattle’s waterfront, where shops, restaurants, parks, and piers attract visitors and residents alike. Stop on Broadway for a cup of coffee and something sweet to go with it. With so much going on, it’s never too late to go.

Seattle is also home to a number of impressive museums. At the Museum of History and Industry, you can view exhibits of artifacts that will give you a better sense of this area’s beginnings. Walking tours to the Montlake Cut or to the Washington Park Arboretum are another exciting option. And like any major city, Seattle displays its high regard for culture at the Art Museum, which includes collections of African, Northwest Coast Indian and Asian art.

Let your wild side free at the Woodland Park Zoo, which boasts a number of open environment exhibits where animals live in natural settings too many restricting fences. If you go, make sure to check out the Northern Trail of Alaska, the tropical rainforest exhibit, Elephant Forest and the African savanna.

No need to spend a lot of money on admission to these attractions you can purchase a City Pass, which covers admission to the Space Needle, the Seattle Art Museum, the Woodland Park Zoo, and several others. It is valid for one week, so take your time and enjoy!

If your kids aren’t too keen on coffee, museums, and shopping, you should treat them to an afternoon of fun at Enchanted Park, which is more like two parks in one. There’s live entertainment, a children’s amusement park, and Wild Waves Water Park, complete with a giant wave pool and water rides.

Seattle’s culture and personality blend in perfectly with its naturally invigorating surroundings. A trip to this fantastic city will bring you the change of scenery you need, so don’t hesitate. Your spontaneity will pay off!
